Chemical Peels
Reveal Your True Skin
At CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics only fully qualified doctors perform skin peeling. We offer a wide range of different peels that cater to every client’s need. From superficial to medium strength, we have a peel for everyone treating acne, pigmentation, fine wrinkles and to enhance overall facial complexion. Our doctors will be happy to meet you during a consultation, discuss your concerns and expectations, examine your skin and then decide on the best peel for you.
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled wound to the skin. They remove the top skin layers to help induce collagen remodelling and therefore improve sun-damaged skin, acne scars, skin pigmentation problems, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. The strength of the chemical peel will determine its depth. Deeper peels will have a longer recovery period, but will also result in greater improvement to the skin.
How should I prepare my skin before a peel?
Skin priming can be achieved by commencement of a skin care product containing retinoic acid as well as a topical lightening agent. This needs to be commenced at least 2 weeks prior (preferably more) to peeling to help with uniform penetration of the peel, accelerated healing, and to reduce post-peel complications. Use of alpha-hydroxy acid cleansers/exfoliants in the weeks prior to chemical peeling can also help the peeling agent, especially in evenness of penetration. Research has also shown that the use of topical Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Epidermal Growth Factor throughout the treatment can maximise the results of this skin rejuvenation procedure. Our doctors will guide you during the initial consultation.
How are chemical peels performed?
Chemical peels are best performed by an experienced doctor. The skin is first thoroughly cleansed. You will be asked to keep your eyes closed during the procedure, which may also be covered. The chemical peel solution is then applied to the face. The procedure is timed, and you will be asked about your comfort level. Neutralisation of the peel can be performed any time during and at the end of the peel. A number of serums are applied to aid the skin with the recovery process and to achieve the desired result. The peel is completed usually by placing sunscreen and a soothing balm on the face.
You will then be given after-care instructions by the doctor. As a rule, the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery. The downtime can vary from a few hours (in the case of a superficial peel) to up to 14 days for a 30% TCA peel.
A Peel for Everyone
Superficial Level 1 Peels
agePeel
Anti-ageing Peel: an effective combination of acids to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and fade away imperfections, leaving the skin smooth and renewed. When skin cells are activated, they can produce more collagen and elastin. Stimulation from a chemical peel can increase the production of many key elements that make up a youthful looking complexion. Rich in L-Mandelic acid and Lactobionic acid, agePeel is the perfect peel to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.
betaPeel
Anti-acne Peel: Rapidly brings acne under control and dramatically reduces the risk of future outbreaks. betaPeel counteracts all three fronts of acne by targeting each assault individually: blocked pore, comedon and inflammation. betaPeel delivers a heavy dose of salicylic acid and azelaic acid straight into the pores and follicles, helping keep the pores clear of cellular debris therefore reducing the number of pore blockages and breakouts on the skin.
whitePeel
Depigmenting Peel: the most effective way to achieve a brighter and even skin tone, free of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, is to eliminate skin cells rich in melanin and prevent the darkening of the new skin cells.
Especially designed to target sun damage and hyperpigmentation problems. whitePeel penetrates the skin’s pigment cells (melanocytes) to gently and effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted discolouration, for a more even skin tone.
eyePeel
Anti-ageing Peel: With fewer sebaceous glands than the rest of the face, the eye area is the first place to show initial signs of ageing, with a reduction in tone and plumpness occurring as early as your mid-twenties.
The Medik8 eyePeel offers an ultra-gentle yet effective solution to treat these skin areas through enhanced cell turnover and regeneration. Carefully selected gentle AHAs that ensure the peel performs the requisite exfoliation, providing even penetration to reduce inflammation and irritation. L-Lactic acid and Lactobionic acid also function to hydrate the skin, alleviating excessive dryness and peeling.
Superficial Level 2 Peels
Jessner Peel
Jessner’s Peel is a superior treatment designed to remove the entire epidermis. A Jessner peel consists of mild peeling agents that can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and to treat sun damaged skin, mild to severe acne, mild scarring, discoloration and moderate wrinkling.
This chemical exfoliation can be performed in a single layer (very superficial exfoliation) or in multiple layers (superficial to medium exfoliation).
For best results a treatment course of 4-6 sessions is recommended.
Medium to Deep Peel
Trichloroacetaic acid (TCA) peel is a medium to deep skin peel and one of the most effective skin care treatments on the market. At 30%, a TCA peel will penetrate down to the upper papillary dermis. It is a very strong peeling agent that coagulates proteins in the skin, consequently leading to the removal of skin layers.
The most suitable candidates for this deeper and more active treatment are those with resilient skin who have more moderate to severe wrinkling, sun damage, and acne scarring.
It is recommended for clients looking for dramatic results targeting more than one concern at once and who are motivated with a ‘no pain, no gain’ attitude.
