Excessive Sweating

Excessive Sweating, Hyperhidrosis, Perspiration

Botox injection is the most effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. This treatment is particularly done on the armpits (axilla) and on the palms of hands and soles of feet. At CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics injectable treatments are carried out by an experienced aesthetic doctor specially trained in London to give you the best results meeting your expectations.

What is excessive sweating/hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that is characterised by sweating or perspiration in excess of the normal needs of the body.

It is classified as either primary or secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis is not due to any particular underlying reason, and can result in excessive sweating in the underarms (axilla), palms and feet. There is usually an associated family history. Sweating usually affects both sides, and is less at night than during the day.

Secondary hyperhidrosis is a result of an underlying medical condition.

The rates of primary hyperhidrosis are estimated at 3% of the population, the age group most affected is from 18 to 54 years.

How can excessive sweating be treated?

Whilst some anti-perspirant products and topical treatments may help primary hyperhidrosis, the effect tends to be short lived and in most cases this does not adequately minimize excessive perspiration.

Botox, the same medicine used for wrinkles is one of the most effective treatments for heavy sweating. In fact, Botox is FDA-approved for treating excessive sweating of the underarms.

How does Botox work against hyperhidrosis?

Botox works by preventing the release of a chemical that signals the sweat glands to activate.

What will my Botox treatment for excessive sweating be like?

The area to be treated is identified. Even though the procedure is not considered to be painful, a local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to make the treatment even more comfortable.

The underarms are the most common areas treated by Botox injections and 50 units of the product on each side are usually administered.

What results should I expect and how long will it last?

After treatment with Botox you will experience around 80% reduction in sweating and the effect will last for around 6 to 7 months, sometimes even more.
