Chemical Peels

Reveal Your True Skin

At CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics only fully qualified doctors perform skin peeling. We offer a wide range of different peels that cater to every client’s need, treating acne, pigmentation, fine wrinkles and to enhance overall facial complexion. Our doctors will be happy to meet you during a consultation, discuss your concerns and expectations, examine your skin and then decide on the best peel for you.

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled wound to the skin. They remove the top skin layers to help induce collagen remodelling and therefore improve sun-damaged skin, acne scars, skin pigmentation problems, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. The strength of the chemical peel will determine its depth. Deeper peels will have a longer recovery period, but will also result in greater improvement to the skin.

Are peels right for everyone?

Chemical peels are suitable for almost everyone and at CHIC we have a varied range from our Sensitive PHA Peel which is suitable for very sensitive skins right through to our mono peels which use high-strength single acids that can even be layered to target stubborn concerns. Certain skin conditions / people may be ‘contra-indicated’ and therefore shouldn’t go down the peel route until skin is normalised.

The first step is always a consultation where our doctors carry out a careful and personalised assessment and recommend the most ideal treatment plan.

How are chemical peels performed?

Chemical peels are best performed by an experienced doctor. The skin is first thoroughly cleansed. You will be asked to keep your eyes closed during the procedure, which may also be covered. The chemical peel solution is then applied to the face. The procedure is timed, and you will be asked about your comfort level. Neutralisation of the peel can be performed any time during and at the end of the peel. A number of serums are applied to aid the skin with the recovery process and to achieve the desired result. The peel is completed usually by placing sunscreen and a soothing balm on the face.

You will then be given after-care instructions by the doctor.

What results can I expect?

24 hours post-peel your skin will likely feel a little tight and appear slightly flushed. Within 3 days your skin will start to flake but within the week you will start to see clearer, more uniform skin tone. Over a course of 6 peels, results will be even more visibly profound. Taking pictures of your progress with your phone is encouraged.

What's the downtime?

By definition, the application of acids to the skin may cause redness, skin flaking and mild peeling; but every skin is different. We recommend not to wear makeup for the first 12 hours post-peel to ensure the skin remains bacteria-free. You will be recommended a comprehensive aftercare routine to continue with at home to ensure your skin recovers and rejuvenates correctly. As a general rule, expect flaking from around the 3rd day post-peel for a maximum of 5 further days. You should avoid direct sun exposure during these recovery days and always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Can I have just one peel to improve my skin?

It is possible to just have a single peel, but we recommend a course of 4 to 6 to really see the long-term skin benefits. It’s a little like going to the gym; you can go occasionally but the real results will come when you commit to an ongoing programme. Our doctors will guide you through your peel journey for best results – basically it’s like ‘individual personal training for your skin’.
